Onboarding shows what the app does, then asks about the exam. Three screens on evaluation and prelims prep, then sign-up and a few details to plan around.

(05) App design · 2023
An app for an AI study mentor, designed to bring UPSC students back every day, and their friends with them.

(01) Brief
SuperKalam plans each student's study for India's civil services exam (UPSC) and sets daily targets from their progress. The brief asked for its app, built to keep students and bring in their friends.
01
A reason to open the app every day.
02
Studying with friends, built into the app.
03
Get students asking SuperKalam, not just reading.
(02) Research
Most ed-tech only delivers content, and too much of it leaves students unsure what to study. I looked at four UPSC apps, then at how habit apps use streaks, leaderboards and rewards.

(03) Structure
I listed the screens in order, the game features that could bring students back, and what points could buy. Then I sketched the flow from the first screen to home.

(04) Iterations
Each one moved the streak, the squad and the day's resources around until the most important thing came first.

(05) Final design
Here's the app in the order a student meets it, from the first screens to the features that bring them back.
Onboarding shows what the app does, then asks about the exam. Three screens on evaluation and prelims prep, then sign-up and a few details to plan around.

Home puts the day's stats first, with the AI mentor one tap away. Current affairs and free resources sit under them.

Streaks, a squad and a leaderboard bring students back with friends. Points earned along the way go towards stickers, badges and merch.
